Southern Suburbs Networking Event: 17 October

17 October 2017 XWSS

This is a mixed network. All welcome.

TOPIC: How Procrastination Almost Ruined My Life: Tips on Managing it in Your Business & Life

Do you ever find yourself keeping extra busy just so you won’t have to tackle a specific task in life or in your business?

It’s amazing how many of us procrastinate when needing to complete tasks we don’t enjoy – the ones we simply put off again… and again… and again.

When Lois Strachan faced the obstacle of learning the skills she would need as a newly blind person in a sighted world procrastination became a very real threat to her desire to move forwards with her life.

In this presentation Lois will share her personal story of overcoming procrastination and learning and using some key techniques to successfully lead a full, fun and productive life despite her blindness. Lois’s inspiring story will shift the way you see your own challenges and encourage you to get on with all the tasks you’ve been setting aside.

ABOUT OUR GUEST SPEAKER:
Lois Strachan is an author, disability advocate, workshop facilitator and inspirational speaker who uses her personal story to help people see their lives and their challenges in a different way to encourage them to succeed. Lois is passionate about de-mystifying blindness to facilitate the inclusion of blind and visually impaired people into the workplace and communities in a meaningful way.

Since losing her sight at the age of 21 years Lois has achieved a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in English Literature and Classical Civilisations and an Honours degree in Classical Civilisations from the University of KwaZulu Natal, a diploma in practitioner Coaching Skills, a Certificate in Human Resource Management from UNISA, and is a Distinguished Toastmaster.

In 2014 she published a series of illustrated children’s books, “The Adventures of Missy Mouse” that enable sighted children to understand that a blind or low vision person is simply a “normal” person who does things in a different way. That same year she was awarded a Tributes Excellence Award for women with disabilities who excel in their fields, in the category of literature and education.

In 2015 she was also appointed as a Casual Day Goodwill Ambassador, advancing the aims of South Africa’s foremost fundraising event for people living with a disability. In December 2016 she published “A Different Way of Seeing: A Blind Woman’s Journey of Living an ‘Ordinary’ Life in an Extraordinary Way” which de-mystifies how she lives a normal life and accomplishes simple, everyday tasks without sight. www.loisstrachan.com

Charlotte FB picCharlotte Kemp - Speaker & Futures Alchemist

Charlotte Kemp is a professional speaker, author, social media trainer and futurist. Coming from an experience of losing a franchise business a few years ago, and still feeling the financial after shocks, she is well aware of the implications of getting business wrong as well as the thrill of seeing one’s own work succeed and get traction. In order to explore what went wrong in her business, Charlotte wrote and self-published a book called “I’m Not Afraid of the F Word, 50 Lessons learned on the way to business failure.” The subject of this books was the content for numerous motivational talks to business owners, networking groups and even MBA students. While using social media to market herself, Charlotte learned how powerful these platforms can be and soon responded to clients’ requests to teach them what she had learned about social media. Thus began a long and interesting career as a social media trainer and key noter covering many aspects such as marketing and PR, sales, networking, personal branding and more. She still owns the site LinkedInCoach.co.za and does in house LinkedIn training for corporates.
