Coastal Networking Event: 13 June

13 June 2017 XWCN 1

TOPIC: Living Authentically - Shedding Labels & Boxes

We are all familiar with the many roles and hats that come with being a woman in our modern society.

Juggling the act can often be daunting and creating balance that ensures the demands of each hat are met without neglecting oneself can often seem impossible, particularly for women entrepreneurs. Add in the pressure of living ‘online’, the constant bombardment of information from what we should eat, how we should live, who we should be and look like ‘in order to belong’ and we are often left overwhelmed and feeling like ‘we can never make the cut’.

Lelemba will share snippets from her journey - from her early days having the ambition to be a boy, to being thrust onto the entrepreneurial path by tragedy and to learning to thrive through living authentically and shedding labels and boxes. She will also touch on the importance of living and working in flow as entrepreneurs and how the ‘I must fix it all’ approach to business is detrimental to the health and longevity of both the entrepreneur and the business and what you can do to ‘multiply’ yourself and others.

ABOUT OUR GUEST SPEAKER:
Lelemba Phiri is the Chief Marketing Officer of Fintech Startup, Zoona. Zoona provides mobile money services to over 1.5 million customers and has processed over $1 billion in transactions. Lelemba is an award-winning financial educator, keynote speaker and development professional who is passionate about entrepreneurship, development and women’s empowerment. She has worked with private, public and government organizations for over 15 years and her experience extends across Africa. Lelemba has been identified as one of Africa's most influential women by CEO Magazine, and in 2015 was awarded the Rising Star Award at Zambian Women of the Year Awards. In 2016 she was named a Cordes Fellow as one of the world's top 50 most promising emerging social entrepreneurs. www.lelemba.com

Terena le Roux Xtraordinary Woman of the MonthTerena le Roux - Owner & Editor of Ideas Magazine

Terena le Roux started her career as a newspaper journalist at Beeld before becoming the first fulltime researcher for Mnet’s Carte Blanche. She then moved to magazines as fashion editor at Rooirose and, after a short stint as freelance stylist, joined Woman’s Value as fashion & beauty editor and, from 2001, as editor. After she launched décor magazines Tuis and Home, she was appointed Editorial Head for Creative Living Magazines (WV,dit, Tuis & Home) and then became publisher on these titles for 3 years, during which she rebranded Woman’s Value and dit to Ideas and Idees. When Media24 decided to close the title at the end of 2016, she took over the trademark and became owner-editor of the magazine.
