Helderberg Networking Event: 05 July

05 July 2018 XWHB

TOPIC: Leadership and Self

"We cannot lead others if we cannot lead ourselves. The hallmark of leadership is responsibility."

So says the former Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela but so many of us get caught up in the day to day pattern of our lives that we forget to step back, consider our dreams and think about how we can turn them into reality.

In an inspiring and entertaining talk, Sarah Arnot of Sarah Arnot Coaching looks at how new developments in leadership science can help us to improve our decisions, to make better choices and in the end to plan for a brighter future.

Topics include:
· Working out what you really want - your overarching life dream, and the themes you can engage with at this point in your life
· Planning can change your life and the first step is to figure out what you want
· Making the right choices can be hard, and you are not alone, we explain why
· Changing isn’t about your dream; it’s about understanding the process that will get you to your dream
· Self-management is key to success.

Sarah Arnot, Leadership Advisory and Coaching. Sarah is managing partner of the Woodburn Mann Leadership Science Institute. She advises Boards and CEO’s on senior leadership appointments and as an international leader herself, she also acts as a sounding board to CEOs bringing into play broader strategic insights. Woodburn Mann LSI conducts board and senior leadership assessments and leadership coaching for some of Africa’s largest corporates. Sarah previously spent 16 years in a global consultant role with Spencer Stuart. She is inspired by the extraordinary potential of people and believes that coaching is one way to unlock that potential for people in leadership roles.

She draws on her experiences in sport and in the corporate world, to motivate people to fulfil their personal potential and achieve success and improve performance within teams.

Executive Search and Leadership Experience
Before joining Spencer Stuart’s LAS team, Sarah led Spencer Stuart’s Internet and Software Executive Search Practices, based in London and Paris. She has worked in the retail industry, the oil and gas sector, manufacturing and logistics as well as technology and finance. Sarah began her career as a consultant with Accenture where she held a European leadership position in marketing based in Dublin, Sophia Antipolis and Paris.

Sarah has published her first book That further shore: turn your dreams into goals and make them reality. The book will be available from 12 June but copies will be available for sale to Xtraordinary Women attending the breakfast event.

Sporting Leadership
For nine years Sarah was chairman and president of the Western Cape Eventing Association. Eventing is an Olympic equestrian sport combining dressage, cross country and show jumping. When Sarah took over the WCEA, the sport was in decline in the Western Cape. By the time Sarah stepped down in mid-2017 Western Cape had won all national team championships for two consecutive years (2016 and 2017). An outstanding leadership team, partnerships and sponsorship mean that the future of the sport has been secured for many years.

Sarah sits on the board of Odessa Investments, a property investment company with assets in Eastern Europe.

She sat on the Board of Eventing South Africa for nine years. She is Chairman of the Stellenbosch and District Riding Club. Sarah herself competes up to International level in the sport of eventing.

Sarah holds an MA in Arts and Letters from the University of Dublin, Trinity College and an MPhil (Coaching) from the University of Stellenbosch Business School. She speaks English, French and Italian. www.saperformance.co.za

Sibabalwe Sesmane XWOMSibabalwe Sesmani - Founder & Managing Director: Unorthodox PR and Media Group (Pty)Ltd

I am a 26 year old Xhosa female entrepreneur born and bred in East London, Eastern Cape. I attended the University of Johannesburg and completed my bachelor in Commerce in Economics and Econometrics. My working life started while still in university in my final year in September 2013, working as a marketer for Phillip Morris South Africa. The marketing bug since bit me as my following jobs were in a marketing role.

In October 2014, I informally started my company and named it Unorthodox PR and Media Group, which wasn't registered till the following year in April. Before starting the company I had an urge to do more & be more and I was fortunate enough to secure my first client before my company was formally registered at CIPC. Since then we’ve won international awards for our clients, gone up against a listed company and we have been nominated for the continental Africa Youth Awards in 2017.
