Southern Suburbs Networking Event: 16 October

16 October 2018 XWSS

THIS IS A MIXED NETWORK - ALL WELCOME!

TOPIC: The Most Valuable Gems Are Found When You Delve Deep: How Deep Work Can Benefit Your Business

Business owners are often required to move fast, be adaptable and able to make changes quickly. To add to the stressful demands we face, we are also required to constantly expand and improve our skills, or in other words, to learn complicated things quickly.

During this talk, Liesl will be exploring the meaning of Deep Work as discussed by Cal Newport in his book with the same title, and how setting aside distraction-free work time can benefit each of us. Newport identified the ability to quickly master hard things, and the ability to produce at an elite level in both quality and speed as core abilities to ensure success. Both of these abilities rely on Deep Work.

Liesl will look at practical tips for ways in which we can make deep work a reality within our own busy schedules. She will also share many of the ways in which her business, as well as her personal growth, have benefitted from an approach of delving deeper rather than aiming for quick fixes and instant gratification.

ABOUT OUR GUEST SPEAKER:
Liesl van der Hoven is an artist, storyteller and the owner of Fairy Caravan.

She has a passion for using her artistic talents to create toys and stories with meaning that will support and inspire children in navigating the challenges of growing up.

Liesl recently completed a children’s picture book with play therapist Lenka de Villiers-van Zyl. The story explores coping strategies for children who suffer from anxiety, and has an additional section with practical guidelines for parents and caregivers.

Nothing makes her happier than knowing that Fairy Caravan’s stories and characters support, encourage and inspire children to be the best that they can possibly be.

Liesl has a Master’s degree in Philosophy from Stellenbosch University. She has also studied Graphic Design and completed several courses in children’s book writing and illustration. www.fairycaravan.co.
